Blog 4: Pobby and Dingan
Who is Peter Sidebottom? Why do you think Ashmol's mother is
looking at his picture in the middle of the night? How does Ashmol feel about
this man? How do you know? Why is this moment so significant?
Peter Sidebottom was the boyfriend of Ashmol’s mother before she met Rex, he was rich and now he live in New York. In my opinion, the reason why Ashmol’s mother was looking at the picture was because she got heavy homesick. At the end of chapter 5, she got shocked and cried about that Kellyanne was really ill. Maybe this fact made her want to go back to the past and restart her life before she met Rex. I think Ashmol hated Peter Sidebottom. For example, he said “One thing’s for sure, I’m bloody glad I ain’t called Ashmol Juvenile Sidebottom! ” Although Peter had better life than Williamsons, Ashmol love his father more and felt happy when he stayed with his family member. This moment is so significant because it showed how Ashmol love his family, and his words changed his mothers mental condition.
He was the man who fall in love with Ashmol's mother when Ashmol's mother was very young. He is handsome and rich that live in New York. I think Ashmol's mother must be exclamatory and touched when she is looking at this photograph. Ashmol think he is very rich and is friend of king. Because it had said in the paragraph of Chapter6. And he really proud to be the son of his father and think his father is better.
Peter sidebottom is a man who was a mate of Ashmol's mother. He is a rich guy and lived in England. His whole name is Peter Juvenal Whiteway Sidebottom and he is rich because his parents is rich. In my view, Ashmol's mother look this picture at the middle of the night is because she misses the old times. Which was nice and easy with no problems to worry about. Comparing to here, the time in England was so nice. Also she do not want people to know that she has homesick so this is why she look at the picture a t night. However Ashmol do not like this man showed in this pasage said by Ashmol "One thing's for sure. I 'm bloddy gald I ain't called Ashmol Juvenile Sidebottom!". This part significant because this helps his mother to stay in the town and find some way to turn things good. Not going back to England and run away from the problems. Also, makes this family united again, this is why its significant.

I think Ashmol's mom looked at the picture because she is unsatisfied with her life currently and maybe she wants to go back to the past before she met Rex. I think Ashmol hates him. I can know this because he thinks it's better to be part of Rex's family.

Ashmol's mother might be looking at his picture in the middle of the night, because he might be thinking that she's done wrong by getting married with Rex instead of getting married with Peter Sidebottom. Ashmol doesn't agree with his mother. He thinks that having Rex as a father and being a Williamson is better that being a Sidebottom. He says that he likes The Ridge. Even though his mom asks him again if he's sure or not he says yes with a determined attitude.
Peter Sidebottom was Ms.Williamson's boyfriend before she met Mr.Williamson, and I think she looked at his picture in the middle of the night because she is kind of missing the old life she had, and not satisfy by the life right now. Or maybe Peter Sidebottom's memory can pacify her pain. I think Ashmol doesn't like Peter Sidebottom, and I quote, “I bet that Juvenile Sidebottom’s a total dag”, this sentence straightly expresses Ashmol's inpatient on him. Another quote from the article, “One thing’s for sure, I’m bloody glad I ain’t called Ashmol Juvenile", at that moment, Ashmol is really mad at his mom because of her unreality and he is also proud of the condition which he is living in.

Ashmol is really proud of his father and in some way, he made the whole family get together again, and that's way it is significant.

According to the book" I felt a bit hot under the hair and I sort of did not want to be in the room."(p43) Ashmol noticed his mom's feeling, and he did not want her to think that way, so he felt a little uncomfortable. Furthermore, Ashmol said Peter was not as happy as they were, and that shows he was trying to make his mom think of the beauty in their life, and did not like peter much.

I think Ashmol does not like Peter that much because he wants his mom, his family be like before.

In addition, he says he loves to live in Ridge.

His mother is looking at the picture because she want to remember the old feelings that she had for Peter Sidebottom – and he old times. She wants to compare the old feelings with the ones from now. Ashmol is asking his mother questions because he thinks that Peter Sidebottom looks rich and that he might have known the Queen. Ashmol was asking his mother why she didn’t marry him – but Ashmol know that she loves his father. Ashmaol is glad that his name is not Ashmol Sidebottom and he’s happy with his dad because his dad has a dream that he will find the opal. He’s glad that his mother married his father and not Peter Sidebottom.

I also believed that Ashmol doesn't like him at all, in the text he says:"One thing’s for sure, I’m bloody glad I ain’t called Ashmol Juvenile Sidebottom!" I can see from this, he really loves his father and this shows how much he wants he's family, how much he wants to protect it.
The first part of plan had worked because some sort of general and shouted that they are searching for Pobby and Dingan as hard as they can (6 hours). It makes Kellyane talked as many that they heard after Pobby and Dingan disappeared. However at the end of chapter 5, his plan is totally failed, because she is very ill.
