  1. The world of the narrator is a lonely world, because the main character decides to study in USA and she's from Korea. She doesn't know anyone when she arrives to the USA. Her family lives in Korea. She never mentions about her father, she only mentions about her mother and brother and sister. She tells us that her family is poor in the scene where she telephones and gets into a car to go to college, she talks about how she had coins and how she had to spend them in a right way since they are not that rich. The unique thing about her is that she's from Korea and studies in USA.

  2. The author's family is kind of in a unusual situation because she mentioned about her mother, four brothers and a priest, but seemed ignored her father, maybe her parents divorced, and she also said that her family is poor, so I think she had a really hard life. The interesting fact about her is that she is not very good at english but she is still studying in an American college, she feels lonely and tiny, and she is very nervous and a little bit afraid of the environment around.

  3. I think the world of the narrator is kind of lonely, because she knows almost nothing about American culture, she has no friend in America, she came here alone from Korea. She is from Korea and now she lives in America, her dorm of the university she studies in. She is shy but very nice. She was shy wearing the traditional clothes, and also being shy when she communicating with others. But she is very nice and friendly, to people she doesn't familiar with and to her new friend, her roommate Ellen.

  4. The world of the narrator is very lonely and sad. The reasons are she has no friends in the U.S.A, she is studying in the U.S.A alone, and she is from South Korean, so she might struggles with an American culture. Her family lives in the South Korea and the main character lives in the U.S. In addition, the main character mentions only about her mother, sister, and brother. She never mentions about her father. Her family is not that rich. The thing that interested me is she studyed in the u.s at that time which is 20 century.

  6. The narrator of "Gathering of Pearls"is a young Korean girl Sookan. She goes to America alone for college. Sookan has a sister and four brothers. Her dad died in the war, and her mom raises them by herself. Sookan lived in Seoul which is a place totally different with America. In her new school, Sookan is unique, because she is a girl who has different skin color, language, and culture with other native student. Moreover, her family is not rich, and she is a sensible girl who understand what her family did for her. Therefore, compare to her roommate, Sookan is also more thrifty and conservative.

  7. The narrator is girl who is Korean and going to the America for studying, she is going to enter the Finch College, an all girls Catholic College in New York. She has father Lee who believes Catholic, mom, and four brothers.
At the first paragraph of the book, narrator wanted to go America, but when the airplane departed, she was worried about her college life, because her English was poor and she doesn’t know anyone in America. However, when she arrived New York and walked through out to the awaiting arrival place, she felt warm that kissing in public and so many open arms.
After that she felt scared and fear because no one came to the airport to take her. However, when she arrived to the campus and met her roommate she felt comfortable.
